Terrace Cafe
As warmer weather is slowly approaching Charlotte, one thing we can look forward to do is getting brunch with friends on the sunny weekends. Sitting outdoors with omelettes and french toast while enjoying piping hot coffee with friends marks the beginning of spring.
One well-known and well-loved location for brunch in Charlotte is the Terrace Cafe.
The Terrace Cafe has two locations in Charlotte, one in SouthPark and the other in Ballantyne. Both locations are around a twenty five minute drive from the University area. It may be a bit farther than your usual drive for food but there’s a good reason why Terrace Cafe has been nominated for various awards and mentioned in famed magazines.
It is self-described to serve Modern American Southern Cuisine. Its menu contains a wide selection of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. However the popular opinion that Terrace Cafe is excellent for brunch is illustrated through its breakfast selections which are served until 2:30 p.m.
My first experience with the Terrace Cafe was at the Ballantyne location. It is located in a plaza so it had a good amount of parking space available. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted courteously by a waiter who seated us quickly. Upon examining the brunch menu, I saw everything from french toast to eggs Benedict to breakfast casseroles to chicken and waffles.
The wide selection offers choices to suit each and everybody’s taste. The prices are higher than other breakfast places that college students frequent, with most dishes ranging from $8-$14 but take into account these factors. The ambiance is more upscale, the portions are large and the service is friendly and fast.
I chose to order the Red Velvet Waffles with hash browns as my side. Upon receiving my food, I was pleasantly surprised. It was visually pleasing, smelled delicious and larger than I expected it to be.
