Weather is a major topic in Madison; Madisonians love to talk about weather! But for a place ranging in temperatures between -20 to 100 the topic does deserve some attention. Madison summers are for the most part very sunny and pleasant. The surrounding marshlands can bring the humidity up quite high and some days turn into scorchers. The humidity also brings rise to another aspect: mosquitos (bring repellant). Nevertheless, summer in Madison is the best time to visit. The summer hosts a plentitude of festivities such as the local favorite " Concert on the Square". The concert is free every Wednesday in summer and commences at 7pm. People gather on the capital site's grass to listen to the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra with elaborate picnic spreads. Rhythm and Booms is one of the nation's most impressive firework displays celebrating Independence Day; it is unique in that it is perfectly choreographed to music. Visits to the Olbrich Botanical Garden is also a great idea, especially between late July and early August for the Blooming Butterlies exhibition.
Fall is also a superb time to visit Madison and in particular for football fans. Camp Randall Stadium hosts the UW Badgers and thousands for rowdy fans. Even non-football fans will enjoy a game due to the spirit of the environment and the impressive performances by the nationally ranked UW marching band.
