Well, we have good news, dog lovers — craft beer and man’s best friend come together for Bark for Your Brew. A ticket to the Bay Street Biergarten-sponsored event not only provides samples of over 12 different kinds of craft beer, but also a pass for both you and your pooch to the RiverDogs game against the Asheville Tourists. Feel free to buy an excessive amount of dog accessories (that you totally need), because retailers like Harry Barker will be there, providing all of your luxury pet needs. Dog-themed contests will also be a part of the evening, with events ranging from an ice-cream licking contest to an owner-and-pet tail-wagging contest — we hope you’ve been practicing.

Nelson Algaze, Jeff Simon, Mark & Josh Bernstein I want to thank you all for your participation in the taping of D&A’s Kickstarter video Friday, October 24th. It was intense, fun and exciting. I’m looking forward to putting the video together and the rest of the Kickstarter pitch. My intention is to raise $15, 000 in 3 weeks so that we can film two different stories and create some stunning visuals and music. It would be great if we could exceed that amount to produce more content for the pilot. Josh had a “baptism by fire” as he learned to handle the teleprompter. The video would have been impossible to shoot without your help, Josh. Nelson demonstrated his passion and excitement for being a host for the pilot of D&A. I think he gave an excellent performance that will make the viewer want to see more of him. Jeff Simon was there to make sure that the substance of the show was well represented in the pitch as we went to last minute editing sessions on the copy, right on the teleprompter. And thank you, Jeff, for taking the picture below. And Mark Bernstein, Josh’s father, who was our mustached cheerleader. And thanks to Mark; both Nelson and Josh are present in the pilot. I’d also like to say a big “Thank You!” to the folks at the Terrace Club ( on West 51st Street. We filmed on the 7th floor terrace in front of Rockefeller Center. Not bad for the first video about a new TV show dedicated to design and architecture. Mirian and Clarenda from the Terrace Club have allowed me to film my video blog there. If you need a place to meet clients or partners over lunch, grab a cup of coffee, or if you just need a conference room, you cannot find a better location.

The summers months are finally here and what better place to relax and enjoy the summer afternoons or evenings then on an outdoor terrace, sipping on a cocktail or two. I love terraces and always grab a seat outdoors if I can. However, it can be a difficult think to do in Central London. Of course, there are quite a few restaurants with outdoor seating but I don’t particularly like eating on the pavement with buses, trucks, and black cabs zooming by while I tuck into my food and drink. This is where rooftop terraces are so handy. They are usually oases of calm and tranquility in the middle of all that city bustle. The Gaucho group understand that and have recently renovated part of the second floor of their Piccadilly branch to contain a cosy and intimate open air terrace. The terrace has a fireplace at one end and a retractable roof. The evening I visited, it was a good thing they had that roof as it was a slightly drizzly evening. Luckily, the roof opens and closes at the press of a button so once it stopped raining, they quickly opened it up again. The terrace is open to the public and is an ideal place to have a pre or post dinner cocktail or glass of malbec. Gaucho has an extensive list of Argentine wines including many wines that are available exclusively at Gaucho. There also have a wide selection of other Argentine wines by the glass and bottle. As the restaurant specializes in Argentine cuisine and specialities, their cocktail list features Argentine cordials and liquors. I liked their twists on classic cocktails made with Argentine products. You can also order bar snacks while in the terrace. The terrace is also available for private parties and dinners. It’s nice to have places like this in Central London and Gaucho Piccadilly now not only offers delicious food and drink but also a quiet and relaxing place in the centre of London.

So you want a garden but your landscape is nothing more than a steep hill or slope. What is a gardener to do? Consider building a terrace garden design and watch all your gardening woes slip away. Hillside terrace gardens are a great way to grow an array of plants and vegetables without the worry of having all your hard work simply wash away. Continue reading to learn more about how to build a terrace garden in your landscape. What is a Terrace Garden? Now that your interest in a hillside terrace garden has been piqued, you might be asking yourself, “What is a terrace garden and where do I start?” Terracing in the landscape creates mini-gardens and is an excellent option for homeowners with steep slopes where planting is otherwise impossible. Terrace gardens help prevent erosion by dividing hilly areas into smaller level sections where water is more easily distributed and soaked into the ground. Hillside terrace gardens are an attractive addition to the landscape and can be planted with a variety of evergreen creeping shrubs, perennials or annuals. Advertisement Terrace Garden Design and Materials The terrace garden design you choose must be the one that best suits your landscape and the degree of the slope you are dealing with. Terraces can be built out of any number of materials, although treated wood is most often used. Treated wood offers a number of advantages over other materials, namely its cost and the fact that it blends in easily with the natural surroundings. Many homeowners choose to use landscape timbers that will last for many seasons in the garden. If you are planning on implementing a vegetable garden, you may want to consider using cedar wood instead to avoid any chemicals that may leach into the soil. Other materials that can be used include bricks, concrete blocks and rocks or various sizes and shapes. How to Build a Terrace Garden Building a terrace garden can be a labor-intensive project and should only be attempted if you are in excellent physical condition and have had some prior carpentry or landscaping experience. If you are unsure of a project of this degree, it is best to hire a professional who is skilled in such work. If you choose to build the terrace garden on your own, it is essential that you determine the rise and run of the slope you are working with. The run is the horizontal measurement between the hilltop and its bottom. The rise is the vertical distance from the bottom of the slope to the top of the slope. Use the rise and the run measurement to determine the height and width of each bed, depending on the number of beds you wish to have. Begin the terrace garden at the bottom of the slope. Dig a trench for the first tier. The more levels you will have in your garden, the deeper the trench should be. Make sure your trench is level and place your foundational terrace layer into the trench. Next, you will need to dig a trench for the sides of the terrace. It is essential that the bottom of the trench is level with the first trench. Anchor building materials with spikes. Layer your next level on top of the first and anchor them together with spikes.
