History
Established in 1997.
Frank Lloyd Wright originally proposed a design for the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in 1938. His architectural vision for the city of Madison - a curvilinear gathering place that would link the shore of Lake Monona to the State Capitol -was finally realized in 1997. Imagine a 250, 000 square-foot, multi-level convention center surrounded by curving, geometric forms that converge with the breathtaking beauty of the natural environment. Spectacular glass vistas that accent flexible meeting and exhibition spaces. And all of it in the epicenter of one of the Midwest's most vibrant and inspiring communities. Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center is a welcoming focal point for residents and visitors alike. Madison's living piece of art truly works as a community gathering place and tourism destination by producing and presenting a wide variety of free and low cost community programs year round.
